The hob does not turn on - possible causes and solutions

The hob has long become an integral part of any kitchen. It takes up much less space than a stove, but is endowed with a large number of convenient functions and options. But any, even the most reliable and high-quality equipment can sooner or later fail. For example, the Lg or Bosch hob does not turn on. If this happened during the warranty period, you must call the master from the service center or take the equipment yourself for repair. If a malfunction is detected after this period, you can try to reanimate it yourself, before contacting qualified specialists, whose repair services will be very expensive.

What to do if a breakdown occurs on the electric hob?

One of the most common causes of a malfunction is that the equipment stops turning on. Before proceeding with the repair, make sure that the device is connected to a power outlet and that the electricity in the apartment or house is not disconnected. If these points are observed, you should begin to further study the problems of the electric hob. The search for the cause should take place in several stages:

  1. Check the voltage at the outlet. In some cases, large loads on the contacts can occur here, which leads to their burnout.

    Outlet Check

  2. Visually examine the equipment plug, as well as the wire that connects it to the equipment, for various damage. If they are detected, the best option is to replace them with new elements in order to prevent a short circuit or open circuit along which electric current moves.

    Check wiring

  3. Turn off the power and completely remove the hob from the countertop. This must be done in order to fully examine the equipment for the presence of various breakdowns, as well as to make sure that there are no cracks and chips that can also cause the equipment to fail.

    Surface dismantling

  4. Check transformer and thermal fuse. For this stage, you will need a special multimeter device. If during the study it was found that the resistance level is lower than specified by the manufacturer, or it is completely absent, it is imperative to replace these parts. You can find them in any store that sells electronics.
  5. Examine all wiring that connects appliances and burners. First of all, the inspection begins with a visual inspection. If it does not give anything, then each contact and connection must be checked with a multimeter.

Important: far from every house has such special equipment as a multimeter. In this case, you can use the indicator screwdriver to set the fault. It will help to quickly establish whether there is voltage on any part of the circuit.

Indicator screwdrivers

There are several basic malfunctions of electric hobs that are easy to fix on your own at home. These include:

  1. The fuse has blown. Usually this occurs as a result of a sharp surge in voltage. If the cause of the malfunction lies in this, then fixing the equipment with your own hands will not be difficult. Fuses are sold in most specialized stores, while the price for them remains at a low level. In order to protect your hob from such repairs in the future, it is also worth buying a device that protects equipment from sudden voltage surges.
  2. Failure to operate one or more burners. If this malfunction is detected, then first of all, check the wires that transmit voltage. Very often, due to constant exposure to high temperatures, the heating element could melt, which led to incorrect operation of the burners. This problem is eliminated very simply: the wire is soldered back using a soldering iron. If the electric heater burns out or melts, then it must be completely replaced.

  3. The problem is in the sensor. As a result, the hobs simply turn on. This malfunction is very rare, but it is considered one of the most difficult to fix at home. It could happen as a result of improper use or cleaning of the surface for this means. First of all, check the wires for a break in them. If they are in order, then the touch panel falls under the replacement. It is better not to risk equipment, as one incorrect movement will lead to a complete breakdown of the equipment. Therefore, in this case, the best option would be to invite a qualified craftsman who has extensive experience in solving such issues.

  4. The hotplate does not heat well. Usually this leads to poor contact with the electric heater, thermostat or thermostat. It is definitely worth checking if there is electricity in the circuit that connects all of these elements.
  5. The hob does not turn off after work. This occurs as a result of a broken thermostat. There is only one way to restore the normal operation of the equipment - buy and replace a broken part with a new one, since the thermostat cannot be repaired.

In addition, the electric hob could fail as a result of mechanical damage. Most often this happens with a glass-ceramic surface, which is considered one of the most fragile and sensitive to external influences. In order to disable the equipment, it is enough to drop an object on it, weighing more than 2 kg or a sharp knife.

Mechanical damage

Important: it is very difficult and expensive to repair the panel yourself in this case, so owners usually go to service centers or buy new equipment. To prevent this, you must very carefully handle the hob with a glass surface.

Induction hob

Old and simple equipment is being replaced by modern high-tech models. First of all, these are models that work on induction. But even they are not immune from various malfunctions and breakdowns. Some of them can be easily and quickly corrected independently at home. Among them:

  1. The hob no longer turns on. Also, consumers are faced with the problem that the equipment is suddenly turned off after the start of work. If a person uses an induction panel for the first time, then he or she may simply not know some of the features of this equipment. It does not turn on or quickly turns off due to the protective function, which is triggered if unsuitable dishes are placed on the surface. This applies both to its size and to the material. That is, it is not a breakdown or malfunction, but simply a hallmark of this type of equipment. In addition, the equipment will automatically turn off if dishes are removed from its surface.
  2. The stove heats up slightly, or this process takes too long. First of all, you should check whether the dishes are correctly selected. Induction hob in 90% of cases does not work well precisely because of this reason.

The surface does not heat up

  3. The panel turns on automatically. To understand what exactly is the cause of this failure, it is necessary to remove all metal objects from the stove, as well as wipe it from spilled salt. If this does not help, then the breakdown has occurred in the control unit. It is better not to engage in self-repair in this case, but to contact a service center right away. Qualified craftsmen will be able to correctly establish the cause of the malfunction and the place where this happened, after which decisions will be made on repairing or replacing the element necessary for normal operation.

The hob itself turns on

Important: if the induction panel has stopped working or is not working correctly, the diagnosis of malfunctions should first begin with a fuse check, and then, if necessary, the entire circuit is examined for breaks. If they are found, the burnt element should be replaced with a new part.

Gas hob

This kitchen equipment is considered one of the simplest types of appliances for cooking. In the event of a breakdown, it is easy to repair it yourself at home, since there is much less electricians present here than in other hobs. The most common failures are as follows:

  1. Gas does not ignite. First of all, pay attention to electric ignition operation. This part is also called a pie. In most cases, due to accumulated dirt or food debris, this malfunction is formed. Therefore, in order to eliminate it, you should thoroughly and well wash the part, then dry and reinstall. If this does not give positive results and the gas is still bad or does not ignite at all, then it is necessary to check the all-electric circuit. If a gap is detected, it should be eliminated.
  2. Gas does not flow to the burner. This becomes the reason that the gas hob does not turn on, that is, it cannot fully work. First of all, it is worth checking the pipe through which the gas moves. A person can simply forget that he himself blocked the access of gas, for example, during the holidays or business trips. If the valve is open, then all nozzles must be checked. Typically, gas cannot be fully supplied to the equipment due to the fact that they are clogged with retired food or fat. Simple cleaning steps will quickly fix the situation, the equipment will be able to function normally again.

If the stoves of the new generation Lg, Ariston, Bosch are installed, regardless of the model, then they are already equipped with a special display, which reflects all the malfunctions. If an error appears on the screen, you just need to look at the instructions for what it means and make a decision on how the problem will be fixed.
